Paper-Made Robotic Arm

Mimicking Nature with organic materials

A very light robotic arm made out of paper and balsa wood for the inner structure reacts to the viewer's motions. Playing with AI-powered computer vision and a few servo motors here, the original goal was to induce surprise with simple materials used along with advanced technology computed on edge devices (Raspberry 4).

Folded patterns were inspired by this book.

The new generation of Got'em
Early development madness

Where to go from there?

Potential developments could be:

  • 3D motion instead of planar movement of the arm
  • Smoother arm extension in sync with viewer's arm
  • Any useful application…?
